Veggie Burger-licious

Patties with Pizzaz

There’s something about a burger that says summer, backyard barbeque and a great combination of a protein-rich patty, bread, tomato, onion, lettuce, ketchup and mayo that can’t be beat. You may have grown up eating the meat version of hamburgers and fondly remember family get-togethers, sports events and picnics where burgers were an essential part of the experience. Among converts to a plant-based diet there is a desire to replicate the taste and texture of this traditional American fare.

These days, you can find many brands of frozen veggie burgers with any number of variations: Tex-Mex, Portobello, Italian Spice, Curry, etc. Commercial brands are convenient, but for a fresh take, why not make your own veggie burgers? Try out some tasty combinations, using ingredients such as black beans, lentils, mushrooms or tempeh as the base. Add lots of fresh vegetables (carrots, celery, greens), spice to suit your taste and freeze the leftover patties for later. Adding your favorite condiments, avocados and special sauce will make your burgers like no other—mmmm, good!

For a healthy life, junk food is not good. If you want good health, try to avoid junk food and eat at home. Fresh vegetable and fruits are best for health.
