Sofa Yoga

Sit and Stretch

The next time you’re sitting in front of the television after a hard day of work, add some sofa yoga to help melt away the residual tension from the day. Even if you are exhausted from a long day at the office, here’s a chance to move your body without even getting off the couch.

Kick away that ottoman or coffee table and stretch your legs out straight in front of you. Begin flexing the feet back and forth, bringing the toes toward you then pointing them away. Add in the breath, inhaling as your feet come back, exhaling as the toes point. This simple exercise soothes the ankles and calves, and increases blood flow to the feet. The pumping action moves energy into the meridians at the feet and nurtures the whole body. Keep going for 3 minutes, making the breath deep and powerful. Let the rhythm rock you into a relaxed enjoyment of your favorite show and, eventually, into a much-deserved, restorative sleep.
