Rock Your World

The Benefits of Bow Pose

Stress got you tied up in knots? Get some help with bow pose—a posture that really rocks. The long list of benefits of bow pose include improved digestion, weight loss, strengthening the respiratory system (relieving asthma and breathing problems) and giving your spine and low back a great stretch. Kundalini yogis expand on this posture by “rocking” back and forth on the belly to unleash its full potential.

You can “put a bow” on the gift of health and well-being by doing a daily practice of bow pose. You will strengthen your core muscles (abdominals) and stretch your shoulders and chest area. Bow pose strengthens the kidneys and is helpful for constipation and diabetes. Rocking in bow pose invigorates and massages your internal organs and opens the front of your inner thighs. So don’t get “bent out of shape” when times get tough…get going with bow pose in your daily yoga practice.

Thanks for the list of benefits to one of my favorite poses! It's incentive to do more.

You list quite a few benefits for this posture upward facing bow or Dhanurasana. Weight loss? That's always tricky. Low back stretch? Actually it's a low back contraction, right, and one must be aware to instruct tuck the tailbone and squeeze legs towards
the mid-line to prevent injury. Not trying to rock the boat, just trying to keep students safe as I'm sure is a big concern for you as well. Thanks for the info!
