Ready and Steady

Preparing for Disasters

Tsunamis, earthquakes, fires, snow storms and power outages…you’ve seen the news reports. While disasters are rare, it's okay to be prepared. Having a plan for emergencies will keep you ready to protect yourself, your family and others in your community both mentally and physically. As yogis, the best preparation is to keep a strong yoga and meditation practice. Having your intuitive powers, a strong nervous system and clarity of mind are the primary tools involved in surviving any challenge—natural or man-made.

Planning for disasters requires you to know what to take with you and what to leave behind, in case you have to leave your home. Make a list of essentials you must take if you only have a few hours (or a few minutes) to pack and go. Learn about emergency food and water storage and take precautions against the most likely scenarios for your particular region. An ounce of prevention is worth the peace of mind you will gain—with your meditative spirit you can pray for the best and use your yogic mind to be prepared in case of the worst!
