Prepare for Take-Off
Eat Right on the Flight

Between security checks, flight delays, germs, weather, luggage, jet lag and sitting in airline seats for hours, to say that travel is challenging these days is an understatement. Most of these things you have little or no control over. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, it helps to focus on something you can control—staying healthy. For a yogi, there are many healthy possibilities for counter-acting some of the normal stresses of travel, including what you eat.
Some basic food-related tips when traveling: Avoid spicy or oily foods, alcohol or overeating. Try a carbonated beverage and some soda crackers to settle an upset tummy. Whole grain crackers are a good source of fiber and nutrients. Bring along some fresh-cut fruits and vegetables to snack on and be sure to drink plenty of water. For long airline trips, ask ahead for vegetarian or low-sodium meals and remember to take your nutritional supplements to make sure you have a “bon voyage.”
