On the Other Hand

Non-Dominant Journaling

“Dear Diary”...even with online blogs and social networking, you might still keep a handwritten journal or diary. Journaling helps you explore your creativity and make sense of what’s going on in your life in a safe space. Writing your dreams, thoughts, ideas, or even drawing can be very healing and gives you a way to “download” your subconscious. Pull out a blank book today and start exploring any number of techniques to help you discover your inner self through creative journaling.

Next time you journal, try writing with your non-dominant hand. Your brain travels normal pathways based upon where it always goes. By switching hands (writing with the left hand if you are right-handed and vice-versa), you will “trick” your brain into becoming confused. This is a good thing. Accessing creativity requires you to be playful, messy and non-linear, so using non-dominant hand writing can be a great warm-up to any creative activity. Switch hands and open a new door to your mind!
