Not Readily Apparent

Karma and Family

Warm weather means more time outdoors, more time with friends and (deep breath) more time with family. Eastern thought says that, at the root of familial relationships, beyond the DNA, is the component of karma. It is said that, as a soul, you chose your parents. In the space between your past life and the one that is going on now, you recognized that there were certain lessons you needed to learn. You opted for your parents, your siblings, and your whole family history in order to learn those lessons.

For example, if you have alcoholism in your family, it may be important for you to learn about moderation in this lifetime. It is obvious how helpful this viewpoint can be. It allows you to step back and benefit from the bad times, as well as the good, and to appreciate even the most irritating trivialities as challenges that, once overcome, help make you a better person. So recognize and love your mother and father as the soul-teachers they are! That’s what they’re here for!
