Lullabye Time

Music for a Restful Night

After a long day’s work, wouldn’t it be lovely to have someone sing you to sleep? We all know about the power of a lullaby to soothe a cranky baby. These days, there is no lack of creative artistry in bringing this motherly art form to life (witness all the music CDs for infants). The power of the brain to switch gears using the rhythms of calming music is part of what makes chanting a mantra so powerful. We vibrate in harmonic resonance with our environment.

Modern technology makes it possible to keep the music going “all through the night.” (Be sure to place your electronic devices on the other side of the bedroom). Make up a playlist of soothing songs, including peaceful yoga music or any inspiring songs whose lyrics and lilting, rocking rhythms have the power to soothe your soul. Tonight, pick out some tunes to guide you into a restful sleep. You are sure to wake up refreshed and light after slumbering “like a baby”!
