In the Swim

Water as Therapy

Summertime—it’s a great time to get in the swim with some water “therapy.” Swimming offers so many benefits, including muscle toning, aerobic fitness and just plain fun! Low-impact swimming and water activities help you beat the summer heat and are a great addition to your daily workout routine. Plus, swimming offers many of the same benefits as yoga, including breath control, proper muscle alignment and body awareness.

Next time you head off for the pool, consider doing some yoga stretches before you start your laps, including pigeon pose, spinal twists, cat-cow and shoulder stretching. Then, get into the swim by engaging your mind, body and spirit. Let your breath join with mantra as you feel your body glide through the water. Many recreational and fitness centers offer water yoga and water aerobics classes. Swimming puts you in touch with the water element, which is healing for the spirit…so go swimming and find your inner dolphin!

Swimming and yoga is the best combo for working out. I love to use my kitsch hair ties and head bands for both: www.mykitsch.com by far the best i've ever used, and so cute when on your wrist when you're not wearing them!

Swimming is an amazing low impact workout with huge results! It's great for overall muscle tone and definition, while easy on the knees and back- it's a workout we enjoy often! Glad to hear you enjoy it as well :)
