Flow Your Mind

Breath for the Brain

Breath control is brain control. Physiologists have told us for years that slowing down the breath has a profound effect on the nervous system. Heart rates decrease, blood pressure reduces, brain wave activity goes to alpha, and you experience a more relaxed, peaceful state of clarity and expanded awareness. Yogis know the power of the breath...here is a simple breath “meditation” you can do for crystal clear thinking.

Simply breathe, listening to the sound of the breath. Feel the breath enter your chest and abdomen as you expand those areas, accepting the breath. Get caught up in the rhythm and sound. Inhale slowly to a count of 10 and exhale slowly to a count of 10. As you slowly count (at whatever your unique lung capacity allows), visualize your breath as a gentle ebb and flow of waves. Continue this flow with your breath for 11 minutes, then inhale deeply, hold and exhale all of the breath out. Relax and observe the change. Your brain will most definitely be in a more peaceful place.
