Down the Stretch

Expand Your Boundaries

Before a run, after a workout and in every yoga class, one of the key components is stretching. A good stretch is essential to keep the muscles and tendons of the body from contracting and cramping. Stretching keeps your body loose and in balance. The same goes for stretching to avoid tightening the mind or the spirit. Going to new places, meeting new people, trying out different foods and taking on an adventure can bring you a renewed feeling of being alive and viable.

One way to practice stretching your boundaries is to listen to what you’re afraid to do. Pay attention to what gets your heart beating faster and your palms sweating – it may hold a clue to a way to move beyond your perceived limitations. It may be rock climbing, public speaking or taking a trip to an exotic location. When you have an inclination to pull back from something new, tune in, take a breath, and see if there is also an energy gently prodding you to stretch into a more elastic and boundless you!
