Cultivate Your Companions

What is a friend? Poet Kahlil Gibran says, “There is no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.” Friends are the people who know you best; they are the keepers of your secrets and they push you to grow in ways you wouldn’t normally dare. Your friend might be your soul-mate, your sibling or someone you have known since childhood. Your next best friend might be sitting across from you on the subway or on the adjacent mat at yoga class.

Friendship is the gift of life and laughter. A friend is someone to cry with over the silly things that upset you and mourn with over the big things that would devastate, if not for a friend to lean on. Your own Soul is your most constant friend, connecting you to a living web of loved ones, beyond time, space and even death. It’s important to cultivate quality time with your friends…don’t take them for granted. As Aristotle said: “Friendship is a slow-ripening fruit.” So cultivate your friends well and enjoy the sweetness of true friendship!
