Check Out Chickpeas

Buttery, Protein-Filled Beans

Garbanzos— also known as chickpeas—are a staple food in Middle Eastern and Indian cultures. These buttery-soft beans add a one-two punch of protein and fiber to your diet. Their nutty flavor is a wonderful addition to salads, soups and specialty dishes such as hummus. Combined with rice, garbanzo beans provide an almost completely fat-free protein. Their high-fiber content also helps reduce risk of heart disease, and high levels of folates and magnesium assist in managing blood sugar levels.

Garbanzo beans also contain a significant amount of molybdenum —a trace mineral known to detoxify the body of sulfites, which can cause problems in certain individuals. So, in addition to good taste and nutrition, garbanzos can protect you from sensitivity to sulfates, manifested as allergies, asthma and celiac disease. Be good to your heart, immune and digestive systems and grab those garbanzos!
